UNESCO Gulf states delegation visits Zhejiang University to strengthen educational cooperation

On May 7, a delegation from the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen, based in Doha, paid a visit to Zhejiang University. Vice President ZHOU Jianghong with the guests and held discussions on deepening academic and institutional collaboration.

Vice President Zhou extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the University’s academic strengths, recent developments, and global partnerships. He noted the longstanding and productive collaboration between Zhejiang University and UNESCO, highlighting key joint initiatives such as the UNESCO Chair in Entrepreneurship Education and the UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Dialogue through Silk Roads Heritage. He also emphasized the University’s active engagement with the Gulf States, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, across education and research, and expressed his hope to work together with UNESCO and universities in the region, thereby making greater contributions to global education governance.

Anasse Bouhlal, Higher Education and TVET Regional Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen, commended Zhejiang University for its comprehensive academic strength and achievements in talent development, scientific innovation, and sustainable development. He looked forward to deepening collaborative ties between UNESCO and Zhejiang University, and to fostering partnerships between Zhejiang Universityand Gulf institutions in addressing common global challenges.

The delegation also toured Zijingang Campus and the ZJU-Hangzhou Global Scientific and Technological Innovation Center, gaining deeper insights into ZJU’s research excellence and dynamic innovation ecosystem.
