On May 28, ZHOU Jianghong, Vice President of Zhejiang University, met with Katherine Belov, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Sydney, and her delegation on Zijingang Campus. The meeting focused on strengthening academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

Zhou Jianghong extended a warm welcome to Katherine Belov and her delegation. He reviewed the decade-long partnership between the two universities and the deep friendship forged during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the University of Sydney remains one of Zhejiang University’s most valued strategic partners. He cited several successful joint initiatives, including seed funding programs and the establishment of the joint lab on sustainable environment, as examples of fruitful collaboration. Frequent high-level exchanges, he added, have opened up new avenues for cooperation. Looking ahead, He expressed his hope for deeper engagement in research and academic exchange, particularly in areas such as sustainability, medicine, and biodiversity. He emphasized that tackling global challenges together will add fresh momentum to the two universities’ strategic partnership.
Katherine Belov thanked Zhejiang University for the warm reception and praised the university’s remarkable achievements in technological innovation and scientific research. She reaffirmed the University of Sydney’s strong commitment to its partnership with Zhejiang University and its broader engagement with China. She looked forward to further aligning academic disciplines and broadening the scope of joint initiatives to meet shared global priorities.

During the visit, the University of Sydney delegation held in-depth discussions with Zhejiang University faculty from the College of Environmental & Resource Sciences, the College of Life Sciences, the School of Medicine, and the Office of Global Engagement. The two sides explored opportunities for expanded collaboration in areas including sustainable development, biodiversity, and global health. Katherine Belov also offered proposals to further enhance joint research efforts.
