Zhejiang University strengthens ties with the UAE

On September 26, REN Shaobo, Chairman of the Zhejiang University Council, met with H.E. Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to China, and his delegation on Zijingang Campus. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on strengthening cooperation in education, science and technology, and innovation.

REN Shaobo extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Hammadi and his delegation. He shared an overview of Zhejiang University’s recent developments, highlighting advances in scientific innovation and global engagement. He also reviewed the university’s existing partnership with the UAE, expressing hope that both sides would further leverage their strengths in key areas such as information technology, while also exploring new opportunities in clinical treatment, medical research, and other emerging fields. He emphasized Zhejiang University’s commitment to deepening multi-faceted collaboration with UAE universities and research institutions.

Ambassador Hammadi spoke highly of Zhejiang University’s accomplishments. He noted that student exchanges and academic cooperation between Chinese and Emirati universities play a vital role in promoting mutual progress in science, technology, and cultural understanding. He expressed his hope that more Emirati students would pursue studies at Zhejiang University, and that more Chinese faculty members would visit the UAE for research and academic programs. He looked forward to expanding cooperation in education, science, technology, innovation, and culture, contributing to the deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Following the meeting, representatives from the Office of Global Engagement, the College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering, the College of Control Science and Engineering, the First Affiliated Hospital of the Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and the Polytechnic Institute engaged in discussions with the ambassador and his delegation. The two sides exchanged ideas on the latest advances in academic disciplines and research innovation, and explored new directions for collaboration.

During the visit, Ambassador Hammadi and his delegation also toured the Zhejiang University Sci-tech Innovation Exhibition Hall, where they learned about the university’s cutting-edge research and achievements in innovation.
