From discovery to action: FAHZU nursing research takes the global stage

From July 16 to 18, 2026, the 37th International Nursing Research Congress was held in Toronto, Canada. Organized by Sigma Nursing under the theme “Discovery into Action: The Future of Nursing Research Starts Here,” the congress brought together more than 1,000 nursing researchers and clinical experts from 45 countries to explore advances in nursing research, clinical innovation, and evidence-based practice.

A seven-member nursing delegation from the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU) attended the congress, with seven abstracts accepted for presentation, including five oral presentations and two posters. The studies highlighted FAHZU’s latest research in day surgery management, critical care, psychological support for patients with cancer, rehabilitation nursing, and evidence-based practice.

The oral presentations addressed pressing clinical challenges through diverse research approaches, while the poster sessions explored nutritional care during the transition from intensive care to general wards and early respiratory rehabilitation for mechanically ventilated patients. Together, the presentations demonstrated FAHZU’s efforts to translate research grounded in clinical practice into meaningful improvements in patient care.

Beyond the congress, the delegation engaged in discussions with nursing researchers and clinical professionals from around the world, sharing experience from the Chinese clinical setting while gaining insights into international approaches to research, evidence translation, and clinical practice. These exchanges fostered new connections and opportunities for continued academic collaboration.

The delegation also visited Toronto General Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children, where they explored clinical environments, multidisciplinary collaboration, family-centered care, transitional care, and approaches to enhancing the patient experience.

The Toronto visit marked another step in the international development of FAHZU Nursing. Looking ahead, FAHZU Nursing will continue to address real-world clinical challenges, strengthen international academic exchange, and translate global advances into locally relevant practice—advancing high-quality nursing care and contributing FAHZU expertise to the development of nursing worldwide.
